The XXIII International Symposium on Homogeneous Catalysis was held at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Trieste, in Trieste, Italy.

The International Symposium on Homogeneous Catalysis is a long-standing meeting point for the scientific community working on catalytic systems, and the twenty-third edition was held on the campus of the University of Trieste. Hosted by the Faculty of Sciences, the event brought together researchers from academia and industry for a programme of keynote lectures, oral contributions and posters, following the tradition established by earlier editions of the ISHC series.
All scientific sessions took place across the symposium days of 21 to 26 July 2024, with presentations delivered in a single-room format that placed keynote addresses and invited talks alongside contributed papers. This arrangement is characteristic of the meeting, where parallel sessions and ample discussion time are designed to encourage exchange between colleagues and to foster the interactions that have built the symposium's reputation for lively debate on advances in catalysis.
Trieste, a city on the northeastern edge of the Italian Adriatic, offered a fitting backdrop for the event, combining a historic academic setting with a lively waterfront and a surrounding landscape of karst hills and coastal villages. The university campus provided lecture theatres, seminar rooms and informal spaces for posters and social encounters, allowing participants to move between sessions and conversations within a compact and walkable environment.
Attendance at the twenty-third ISHC was deliberately limited to around four hundred participants, admitted on a first-come, first-served basis, reflecting the organising committee's intention to preserve an atmosphere conducive to focused discussion and close scientific exchange. Alongside the scientific programme, the symposium featured social events, a dedicated contributors' session for posters and presentations, and accompanying activities designed to bring delegates together beyond the lecture hall.
